The
Neocon is a Dinosaur
Let
me begin by stating that the definition of the current Neoconservative
is far different than the original founders of the movement.
While Irving Kristol and his ilk primarily believed in the
union and strategic power between Israel and the United States,
the current Neocon has subverted the original intent, into
one simple concept; “The United States should rule the world,
because we can force people through military might, to bend
to our will.”
Kristol’s
son William, along with other founders and signers of the
Project for the New American Century, stated almost nine years
ago (well before Bush was elected) that among other things--
- We
need to increase defense spending significantly if we are
to carry out our global responsibilities today and modernize
our armed forces for the future;
- We
need to strengthen our ties to democratic allies and to
challenge regimes hostile to our interests and values;
- We
need to promote the cause of political and economic freedom
abroad;
- We
need to accept responsibility for America's unique role
in preserving and extending an international order friendly
to our security, our prosperity, and our principles.”
The signers
of this original charter included among others, Elliott Abrams,
Jeb Bush, Dick Cheney, I. Lewis (Scooter) Libby, Donald Rumsfeld
and Paul Wolfowitz.
Since
then, this group of erstwhile “nation builders,” along with
their front-man, G.W. and his handler, Karl Rove, have been
at the center of what is rapidly becoming the worst foreign
policy in history. Squandering the Post-9-11 unity of almost
the entire world, these people, along with captains of oil,
arms manufacturers and the military war complex, created a
policy based on fear, threats and innuendo that has not only
alienated much of the free world, but expanded government’s
role into the lives of private citizens, ballooned the government
spending and the deficit, and all but insured a protracted,
bloody occupation in the Middle East.
In short,
this movement has single-handedly moved our country from being
a global citizen that is known for fairness and even-handed
foreign policy, to an international bully who chooses military
might over diplomacy, while picking and choosing which nations
are to be “saved” and transformed into our brand of democracy.
These
people, and their Reaganomic style of thinking are dangerous,
and should go the way of the dinosaur, to be written about
in history books as an example of predatory animals ill-equipped
to adapt to a changing environment.
While
this concept continues to place a bloated military and government
budget above all else, our education and domestic agendas
show clear signs of atrophy. While we dedicated ever-inflated
budget percentages to our military and “homeland defense,”
countries that spend a fraction on the same are becoming global
economic threats to our actual national security.
It is
time to realize that the day of military expansionism is over.
Security does not mean invasion and long-term occupation by
military means. What is becoming increasingly evident, is
that economic investments into the countries that are most
at risk of becoming “rogue nations” bring about far more return
and international security than death, destruction and military
domination.
Our true
power in the world is, and should continue to be our economic
mobility, creativity and innovation. Military solutions rarely
if ever do anything but create the need for more military
solutions. Using the power of the diplomacy and economic investments
as a “weapon of choice,” is the way of the future.
It’s time
to bid farewell to Neoconservative dinosaur…before they drive
the rest of the world to extinction.
